Hounding the Pavement Dog Walker Book 1 Judi McCoy Books

Just finished Judi McCoy's first Dogwalker book, Hounding the Pavement and it was pretty good. Yes, there wasn't anything really supernatural involved, other than Ellie talking to dogs. She can hear their thoughts and she just talks to them and they understand. I'm personally not a big dog lover, my mom is so I tolerate our two monsters, but still I do like dogs. This was a good mystery novel.

I don't read too many straight mysteries all the time because I can never find one that is really good or gripping and the Dogwalker series so far proves to fit that bill in being gripping. Ellie and Ryder have a very unusual start to their relationship in that they almost hate each other in the beginning. Ryder is not a dog lover and Ellie is, so when he makes his snarky comments about dogs, it makes Ellie and her dog Rudy who understands what people say, mad. So there were some definite chuckles in the book!

The mystery itself was good, Ellie is doing everything she can to find the missing dog, not so much the killer. But it is kind of obvious how things might end up happening. If you're not looking for a particular something, what usually happens? Of course though, there are many suspects in the novel and it leaves you guessing. Of course I think I made my guess when we first saw a particular someone and was RIGHT! Yea me!

The relationship Ellie has with her dog Rudy is also entertaining. Rudy is a little firecracker and can say what a dog would say. He isn't single minded like you would see in a movie and just talk about throwing sticks or eating treats, he's pretty intelligent for a dog.

Overall it was a very good book with lovable and REAL characters. Ellie is extremely real and I love that about her. When I can find the time between my other reads, I will definitely look into the next book in the series Heir of the Dog.

Hounding the Pavement Dog Walker Book 1 Judi McCoy Books Reviews

so glad when I really like the book after I get it
First off the book was cute. As a dog lover myself I found that it was nice to read a book in which the author was so educated on the matter. The mystery was kind of spelled out for the reader and it was hard to believe a devoted detective had such a hard time figuring it out from on step to another but all and all it was an easy fun little book, a good read for pet lovers everywhere.
As a Mystery lover and a Dog lover, this book rocked. Kept me guessing on the killer up until the end. I enjoyed the twist on a human's ability to read a dog's mind and vice versa. The characters were well written, and I got a good idea of their personalities right from the get-go. Definitely a series to add to your list! The author's voice was fresh and quirky...great read! Ps...the Titles of this series are SO creative.
I don't usually give reviews but I was drawn to this book for a few reasons.....1) it involved dogs.......2) it's a mystery.....3) it seemed like the type of book you could pick up and read and then put it down and pick it up again when you had the chance or read it in one sitting depending on my time....AND 4) the royalties for this book were going to an animal shelter. Not may authors would give up their royalties to an animal shelter. It was worth the price of the book just for that. As it turns out, the story was interesting and I really liked the characters. They were people you could relate to. If you're looking for some light reading, give this book a chance. AND, just think, you're also doing something good by helping an animal shelter---It's a win-win.
I'm so glad I came upon book #1 in this new series!
As a huge dog lover, I figured I'd "like" the book....but with such great writing, wonderful characters (both human and canine) I LOVED it!
The pacing of the story was perfect and hooked me from page one.
Another thing I really liked was the fact the author absolutely knows and understands both dogs and their owners. No apology is made for those of us that truly consider those four-legged friends true members of our family.
I also admired how the author addressed some pertinent owner responsibility issues....like getting our dogs neutered or spayed if we're not going to breed them. Or how vitally important it is to have a vet and have our dogs up to date on shots, etc.
I highly recommend this book and I enjoyed the mystery....actually, I didn't figure out who done it until the very end. I thought for sure it was somebody else...but won't say here who, as that would be a spoiler.
Now I just have to wait till October for book #2 in this series.
Ellie Engleman is committed to making her own way in life sans pantyhose and power suits. The first thing Ellie does after her divorce is rescue a dog from the shelter to replace the one she had to give up when she married. Ellie's delighted to learn she can communicate with her dog and that he is the reincarnate of her former dog, who was hit by a car. She begins her own dog-walking business, where she finds herself harassed by two other dog walkers unhappy with the competition. Ellie discovers the dead body of one of her clients and quickly becomes the number-one suspect of sexy Sam Ryder, a wise-cracking detective who can't seem to convince Ellie to stay out of his investigation. But Ellie is anxious to find her murdered client's kidnapped dog, a Westminster champion, while clearing her name, and nothing's going to stop her. Not even the sizzling chemistry between her and Sam Ryder.

Hounding the Pavement, the first book in the Dog Walker Mystery series, is simply delightful. Ellie is a refreshing character, a size-16 woman finished with compromising her wants and needs and determined to live life on her own terms. Dog lovers will identify with Ellie's love for these furry creatures and will appreciate that this author is donating all royalties to Best Friends Animal Society. Readers will be entertained by the conversations Ellie has with not only her dog but other dogs who choose to converse with her. The plot is interesting and moves at a fast pace, with plenty of red herrings thrown into the mix to provide a good mystery. Excellent debut to this series.
